Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti is Africa’s most iconic national park, celebrated for its astounding concentrations of predators and the dramatic Great Migration of two million wildebeest. The park’s vast, grassy plains—called Serengeti in Maasai—are the richest grazing grounds on the continent, hosting the largest herds and the highest densities of predators globally.

Focusing only on the Great Migration would be a disservice to the Serengeti. Even without this spectacular event, the Serengeti can be considered the finest park in Africa. It offers vast herds of grazers, enormous lion prides, breathtakingly expansive views, thrilling wildebeest river crossings, excellent leopard sightings, high concentrations of cheetahs, and some of the best safari camps in Africa—what more could you ask for?

The Serengeti is one of those rare places that not only lives up to its immense reputation but often exceeds expectations and leaves visitors in awe. Surrounded by remarkable tribes such as the Maasai and Hadzabe, the region also offers rich cultural experiences. In essence, the Serengeti is the epitome of safari parks and the most renowned wildlife reserve in the world. There is truly no place like it—absolutely outstanding!

The Serengeti’s Great Migration

Originally established to protect the path of the Great Migration, the Serengeti and its adjacent reserves span nearly 30,000 square kilometers. Throughout the year, massive herds of wildebeest and zebra move in a clockwise direction across the expansive plains in search of fresh grazing areas. For detailed information on the herds’ movements, check out our Great Migration page. To enhance your chances of seeing the herds, selecting the right accommodation for your travel period is essential. Experiencing the migration in the Serengeti truly represents the pinnacle of a Tanzania Safari.
